Campbellsville University’s Master in Sport Management (MASM) offers graduate students a rigorous curriculum in essential business theory, managerial skills, and marketing techniques, all of which are grounded in Christian values. In addition to the management focus, students will receive training in sports ethics, finance, event planning, and other practical subjects. Furthermore, the sports management masters is tailored to both recent bachelor’s graduates and working professionals who would like to further their career opportunities.
Earning a sports management degree equips students with crucial experience needed to get involved in the sports business. Contrary to popular belief, athletes and coaches are just a small fraction of the sports workforce; each team needs medical and physical therapy professionals, personal trainers, stadium managers, agents, public relations experts, and many other people to function. Even when no teams are playing, there are sports lawyers, commentators, journalists, retail managers, and related roles that keep the industry alive. With a Campbellsville education and enough real-world experience, MASM graduates will have everything they need to begin a rewarding, lucrative career in sports.
Admission requirements to the MASM program include a sufficient bachelor’s GPA, three letters of recommendation from professors or supervisors, and a cover letter with a 1,000 word Statement of Career Goals and an up-to-date bio of career experience. International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency by earning an acceptable TOEFL Exam score.
Offered in a blended (on campus and online) format, the sports management masters is comprised of 30 course hours, broken down into a 21-hour core curriculum and a nine-hour specialization. The requisite core curriculum includes five sports management courses, Research Methods, Managerial Finance, and a Capstone Project/Thesis. Students may choose between an Administration or Marketing emphasis for their nine-hour specialization. The Administration track features courses such as Event Management & Promotions, Sport Psychology, and Marketing Management; the Marketing track includes Healthcare Marketing, International Marketing, and Marketing Communication. To receive the sports management degree, students must complete a Capstone Project or Thesis and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0.
